Custom Art
Have you ever wanted to commission custom artwork, but aren't totally sure how?
Well allow me to make it easy for you!
If you have a photo from a favorite trip or from a meaningful spot in nature, consider participating in my commission process.
Commissions
I offer a traditional commission process where I work with you to create a painting that meets your specifications.
- Requires a non-refundable deposit.
- Formal contract.
- You get to decide color palette, composition, and size.
- Commissions generally cost more than similarly sized work because I am giving up some creative control.
FAQ
How much do commissions cost?
The commission process typically costs more than similarly-sized work because I am giving up my creative control in order to create something that fits your specifications.
In general, the cost is dependent on size. At the smallest scale, you can expect a 4x6" commission to start at $300. At a larger scale, you can expect a 24x36" commission to start at $1,000. And from there, the cost increases as the size increases.
If I accept your commission request, and you agree to the terms of the contract, a 50% non-refundable deposit is required to begin the commission.
Please submit your commission request and I will respond to any questions via email.
Will my commission request be accepted?
Unfortunately, not all commission requests will be accepted.
Your commission request will likely be accepted if:
- The subject matter of your image is a good match with my area of expertise: nature, mountains, valleys, landscapes.
- Your proposed color palette is similar to my other work.
- The costs and timeline associated with the commission work for you.
Can I remain anonymous during this process?
Yes! If you'd like to remain anonymous, please let me know and I will not post your name or your submitted photo on social media. However, I do retain the right to post the painting I created on social media that was inspired by your photo.
How long does the process take?
I will adhere to agreed-upon timelines. Please note that my ability to book new commissions is dependent on my commission calendar, which fills up quickly. This allows me the flexibility to devote time to other projects in tandem with commissioned work so that I don't get burned out.
Will I get updates during the process?
In general, I keep my commission process private to protect the creative process. In a similar way that an author wouldn't show someone a manuscript unless they needed feedback or it was ready to be edited, I will not send photos of a work in progress unless I need specific feedback from you. This allows for creative problem solving and experimentation - necessary ingredients in the creative process.
However, if you'd like updates on how things are going with the project, I am more than happy to provide text updates along the way - just ask!
